Key Purpose of Role

The Role Holder is accountable for all the end to end monitoring & management systems that ensure a timely response to all network platform alarms that are managed and maintained by the NMC on behalf of varioius customers. The role holder is responsible for initial and second line diagnostics for faults reported by the customer or via the range of network management platforms that are supported by the NMC.

They are responsible for managing engineer functions and resources that provide 24 hr support within all divisions in order to maintain an effective telecommunications network on behalf of the organisation. They are responsible in ensuring timely restoration of all network incidents and providing updates with regards to service issues via the customers relevant fault management systems in line with agreed SLA's. They are responsible for escalation of any major faults and network issues in a timely manner to ensure time scales and contractual oblligations are met. The role holder is responsible for ensuring any faults not initially fixed at desk are passed to appropriate third line support groups or the appropriate internal departments with concise information that will aid a timely & successful fault resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a wide degree of technical knowledge across a wide portfolio of products and technologies, spanning multiple vendors to support the business' needs and to maximise our fault resolution rate & minimize T2R.

  • Provide proactive monitoring and management of all network related platforms, typically:- System X, DMS, SDH,DWDM,ATM, Frame Relay,Cisco IP, and Ericsson /Alcatel NGA.

  • Ensure network & physical security and integrity is maintained.

  • Ensure all planned mtce activities are managed and recorded appropriately.

  • Provide advice, guidance and support to our customers when dealing with technical faults and issues.

  • Engage third party engineering groups, including vendor and other interworking departments.

  • Support & liase with field operational engineering teams.

  • Ensure all proactive mtce. routines are completed in a timely manner.

  • Ensure all platform reported issues are acknowledged, diagnosed and progressed as appropriate in line wih customer and contractual obligations.

  • Provide technical advice and support to customer/OLO provisioning and customer service teams.

  • Responsible for entering accurate codes and quality notes on the systems and fault reports that are relevant to the role.

  • Ensuring that the Management and reporting of all faults is dealt with in a timely fashion and within specific contractual guidelines.

  • Manage and support customer and end user issues, ensuring that updates are provided as per contractual obligations.

  • Execute their allocated work to maximise speed and quality of completion.

  • Respond to work requests from customer and provide visibility of work to manager and team where required

  • Where engineer is in jeopardy of not completing the job to standard timescales then they proactively notify the Jeopardy Lead/ Shift Leader or Manager of any issues.
